Learning How to Deal with Negative People – May 15, 2016

The Bible says “If the ax is dull and its edge is unsharpened more strength is required.”

A Naysayer is…

  • a person who says something won’t work or isn’t possible,
  • a cynic who habitually expresses pessimistic views.

“Now David was the youngest of Jesse’s eight sons…His three older brothers enlisted in Saul’s army [Saul was the king of Israel at the time]…but David was held back to care for the sheep in Bethlehem.” 1 Samuel 17

1st BARRIER – is DELAY.

“Each day Goliath would stand and shout at the ranks of Israel’s army, ‘Why do you come out here and line up for battle? Choose one man to fight me.  If he’s able to kill me, we will become your subjects but if I kill him then you will become our subjects and serve us…and the Israelites heard this, everyone was deeply shaken and paralyzed with fear.”

Verse 16 says “For forty days, twice a day, morning and evening the Philistine giant, [Goliath] loudly berated the Israelite army.”

Who are you listening to about your life?

“David asked, ‘What’s the reward for killing this Philistine and ending this disgraceful abuse?’

Why I Give Online to Eastpointe

I am hearing so many great reports of what God is doing as people choose to put God first in the finances. Truly, when we learn to BE GENEROUS, it changes the way God is involved with our life.

So I wanted to write today about – Why I Give Online to Eastpointe.

Besides being the Pastor of Eastpointe, I’m also a member who generously contributes to the financial budget of Eastpointe. I give more than 10% of my pre-tax income to my church, and I wanted to share some of the reasons why.

First, I believe in the mission of our church, which is helping people WIN IN LIFE. I’m proud to be a part of a church that cares about reaching people far from God and helping them say “YES” to God one day at a time.

I get pumped every time I hear a story about a family put back together. When a student decides to follow Christ or a man who finally gets back in church, I know that my generosity played a small part in that. People’s lives are being changed in our Church.

Secondly, I want to be an example to my children. I’m so tired of hearing people complain about the younger generation…they are just following our example! I don’t want selfish children, caring only about their iPods, clothes, cars, and friends. I want my kids to care about other people.

That’s not gonna happen by accident…I have to be intentional about modeling that. I cannot tell them to care about others and then spend 100% of my paycheck on our own needs and wants. Parents, we’ve got to be responsible for teaching our kids to be generous, and we can’t do that if we are not generous ourselves.

Thirdly, I give because Jesus says where I put my treasure…that’s where my heart really is. Even the OT talks about bringing God the first 10% of our income, and obedience wasn’t an option.

In the New Testament, Paul writes about money. He tells Christians this: “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Every paycheck, we automatically give to our church because that honors God. We want to honor God, even when it’s difficult, even when things are tight. There have been times that we’ve gone without something, but we never forget to give to the church. I’d rob the mortgage company before I robbed God.

I do all of this online. I set up a profile on our website and it’s easy, automatic, and convenient. If giving is really important, then it needs to be automatic.

I want to encourage you to automate the important by setting up your online giving profile today. Log onto Eastpointe.tv and click the GIVE ONLINE link (top right). Then click the GREEN GIVE NOW BUTTON. Fill in the minimum information, and if you want it to be automatic, select RECURRING to have it automated.

Get ready for God’s amazing blessings. sbb

4. Top 10 Goals

Focused on the Goal – Paul is saying, “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning (drawing, inviting) us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. Philippians 3:12-14

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” Acts 2:17

Today – Your Dreams is Your Destiny

“Listen to this dream,” he said. “We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!” His brothers responded, “So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?

“Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!”

“Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.” Genesis 37:19-20

Don’t Give Up on Your Dreams EVEN in the PIT

Dreams are Conceived Long Before They are Achieved

The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master.  Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. Genesis 39:2

How would you live differently if you had 100% confidence the Lord was with you?

√  Even if it didn’t start off well.

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 1 Tim 1:12-13

√ Even if the journey is full of surprises.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

√ Even if it takes a long time to realize it.

These things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day! Habakkuk 2:3 LB

  1. Recognize and value the process.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. 1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT

  1. Refuse to let offense stop me.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…  Genesis 50:20

Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come…” Luke 17:1

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [a person], but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

  1. Remember God is always with me.

The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered… Genesis 39:2

The LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor… Genesis 39:20-21
